I have seen Aja twice now and they are just one of the best group of musicians and singers I have seen in a while....and they play all Steely Dan to boot. I grew up with parents that were Dan fans and I forgot how much I really like their music. Aja does an amazing job duplicating the Dan sound without being cheezy (like some cover bands can be) They are definately worth checking out! - Jenny C. , posted 01/02/06 |

As promised... I am reviewing Aja. And I don't mean the Aja album. What can possibly be said about a band that has established itself as one of the all time greats in rock/ jazz fusion? People are still writing reviews of Steely Dan, no doubt. But this isn't one of them. This is about a Dan tribute group called aja. Visit them here: www.ajamusic.net/ I have to admit. I was skeptical. It felt like I was buying tickets to see an Elvis impersonator or something. And I just don't do things like that! It was NOTHING like that though. It was more akin to seeing a symphony perform Bach. Only.... they performed all Dan. All the time. Three hours of it. And they did it well! Amazing. I knew all the words to all those songs. They came flooding back to me and to most of the audience. Yes. The audience sang along! Some of them even danced in the aisles!! Imagine... 40 and 50 year olds at a symphony performance, in a "performing arts center" getting up to dance cuz they just can't sit still anymore... Quite a vision, huh? Maybe you don't want to imagine it. LOL. Aja perfoms again in Cincinnati on Jan. 14th and in Dayton on the 27th.
